1. How can I search for files in the gallery?
Answer: To search the gallery use the link "search" at the
top, right corner of the page. On the search page you can choose specific keywords
or supply your own. Additionally, further options are available to sort and
limit your search results. If you are unable to locate a specific item or have questions, feel free to contact the administrators by using the "contact" form link above.
2. How can I rate a file?
Answer: The rating
function is similar to the school note principle. If you find a file especially
good, then you can give it the rating of "excellent" (5 yellow stars).
If you do not like it at all, you can select the worst rating "poor"
(1 yellow star). Ratings between these two extremes are of course also possible.
If all stars are silver in color, then the file has not been rated yet.
3. How can I play or view media files?
Answer: The gallery is capable of supporting various media and video file types, e.g.
Quicktime
(mov), Windows
(avi, wmv, asf, mpg, mpeg, wav, wma, midi), Realvideo
(rm, mp3) or Macromedia
Flash (swf). In order to view these files in your browser you must have the
respective plug-in installed on your computer. These plug-ins can usually be downloaded
free of charge from the manufacturer's website. Depending on the
media type, your browser may notify you automatically about missing plug-ins. It is preferred that all video files submitted to the gallery be in Quicktime
(mov) format.
4. Which download link is the right one?
Answer: If this option has not been disabled by the administrator you
have two different possibilities of downloading the original file. You can choose
between "normal" download
or download as a zip file .
The "normal" download is suitable if you wish to open the image or media
file in your browser for viewing, but also for saving it on your hard drive. The
zip download is better if the image or media file is very large and you wish
to save it on your hard drive. However, this option requires that you have a zip
extractor programme available such as WinZip for PC or Stuffit Expander for MAC.
Note: when viewing an animator's Showcase page or any media where additional content is contained below in the description field, using either one of these download features will only give you the first media type. In other words, nothing contained within the description field is downloaded, only the primary image or video file that is referenced. At present, there is no way to correct this. If you wish to archive the entire webpage, use your internet browser's "save as" feature and download to your hard drive.
5. How do I submit my film to the gallery?
Answer: Click on the "upload" link at the top, right corner of the page and follow the instructions provided. You must remember to view and check the "terms of agreement" box before doing so, otherwise your information will be lost. First, select the category you wish to upload to by using the dropdown box provided - all of the categories available for uploading are listed here. Then provide a Title, Description, Keywords, Name and valid email address. To select your file on your hard drive, click the "select" button and locate your file. Once selected, check the "terms of agreement" box and click on the button "upload" to begin uploading your file to the server. This may take several minutes depending upon your internet connection. Once completed, your entry is submitted to our admin staff. We reserve the right to accept or decline entries. Sometimes we have to be selective and use certain criteria while at the same time monitor our storage space and bandwidth. If your entry is not accepted, please don't take it personally.
6. What if my file size is too large?
Answer: We are still having difficulties regarding the file size limit for the gallery. Currently, even though it may say otherwise, the maximum file size that can be uploaded is 8MB's due to server limitations. For now, use the "contact" form above to let us know you're having difficulties so we can provide you with an alternative upload feature. Please try to compress your film below 20MB's, we can compress it further if needed but will not accept anything over 20MB's. Jason Gottlieb has created a compression tutorial that you may find useful [click here].
7. How can I contact the Administrator?
Answer: To contact the Administrator of the gallery click on the "contact"
link in the upper right hand corner of the page. Fill out the form respectively.
Your message will be forwarded to the Administrator via E-Mail.
